RETENTION BENEFITS
It is often said that a business with good management but poor cash flow won’t survive, whereas a businesses with poor management and great cash flow can flourish despite the management.
Great consultancy with poor implementation is like the former. Below is the graph of a study called the Ebbinghaus Effect and what it shows is that the knowledge gained on a training course starts to diminish the moment one leaves the classroom, structured and periodical review however keeps the newly gained knowledge level high. |
A parallel can be drawn with a consultant and the implementation of his recommendations.
This brings us to ERGO Consultancy’s preferred method of working with clients. We know from evidence like this that results generated by a one off project are far more valuable when they are backed up by on-going support and review.
The best approach for making lasting change is on-going monitoring.
We are often contracted initially to aid a project’s implementation, and thereafter to provide support for a few days per month. We can be called in to provide perspective on electronic trading, commission management or best execution, and sometimes asked to provide reports for internal use. In essence it’s like having the consultant as a part time employee but only when you need them.
We understand flexibility and are clear that some months we may be required for longer than the allotted time, occasionally less but we will never wave a time sheet under your nose nor will there be an extra bill for the months you run over.
Clearly we would still love to take on extra chargeable projects over time but the likelihood is that most of the things you would normally pay for a full blown report on could be covered under the retainer agreement saving considerable money over the course of a year.
Let’s discuss this when we meet, it can be much more cost effective and flexible than you think.
